OATS - Organic Agricultural Tourism

Rural and remote regions in Europe are all in a similar situation – they suffer from brain drain and the loss of young people. There are not many high quality jobs for people with a good education. Recent structural and regional reforms leading to more concentration of power and infrastructures around the urban areas are worsening the situation. Rural regions, however, have rich cultural and natural resources.
Partners from Denmark,Germany, Iceland, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey have been collaborating for two years in the project OATS from October 2008 to September 2010, funded by the European Commission, LifeLong Learning Programme, Leonardo da Vinci, Transfer of Innovation.
The obectives have been to contribute to make rural regions more living and attractive through lifelong learning opportunities and the promotion of sustainable rural tourism.
